Air pollution is becoming an increasing problem worldwide. Older cars with less than perfect filtration system often have poor air quality inside the car. Thus, we were commissioned by Philips to come up with a retrofit air purifying solution for in-car use. When we approached this project, our first thought is how we can create a purifier that is unobtrusive, ergonomic and fits well with the existing habits of driving.

We came up with GoPure, a purifier that is built into the central arm rest of the car. We intentionally built a form that is minimal, smooth and nice to touch, so that the purifier can function well as an arm rest. The new air purifying system is smart and versatile. It detects the air quality and displays it through a broad LED indicator near the driver’s position.

The high efficiency filtration system eliminates airborne particulates, gaseous pollutants and germs. Creating the perfect personalized driving experience, drivers can enrich the ambience inside the car with their personal choice of aroma scent through a capsule that is inserted into the purifier.
