Hyundai and Kia are planning to add solar panels on the roofs or hoods of the selected car models. The solar roof are primarily made to charge battery for electric cars and hybrids, but they would also be available to combustion-only models later. The solar roof system promises to help charge 30 to 60% of the battery of a hybrid vehicle. Although the first-generation models would be limited to hybrids with conventional roofs, the second version are said to be semi-transparent and would provide a panoramic view. We may be able to try out the first-gen solar roof car as early as 2020.
